The town of Kolasin

Kolasin is a town in the north of Montenegro. This small town founded by Turks in the 17th century.

The endless Tara and Moraca rivers are beside it and surrounded by mountains. Sinjajevina, Bjelasica, Kljuc and Vucje embraced this little city.

Kolašin is located at 954 m above sea level and offers excellent holidays, both in winter and summer. Due to its height and favorable climate, Kolašin is considered an air bath.

A special attraction for tourists is the Biograds lake located in the Biogradska Gora National Park, one of the three preserved forests in Europe. Biograd Lake is 1094 meters above sea level, and there are pedestrian paths around it.

During its three centuries old history of Kolasin, as they say, shared the fate of most Montenegrin towns, mainly at the hands of the occupiers to releasing arms and vice versa. This little town is a real curiosity given the fact that it went from one to another hand 23 times, destroyed and waited for the ultimate liberation from the occupiers in ruins. A special role in the creation of Kolasin, its duration and struggle for liberation were tribesmen from Rovac and Moraca, especially during the 17th and 18th centuries.

The territory of the Kolašin municipality is mainly located in the middle part of the Republic of Montenegro in the middle and upper streams of the Tara and Morača rivers on a total area of 900 km2. There are about 12,000 citizens in this municipality, and in Kolašin, the center of the municipality has about 6,000 citizens.
